kitchen-1It is important that your kitchen is not only beautiful and functional, but built to be energy efficient as well. The main working functions in a home kitchen are carried out between the cook top, sink and refrigerator. These three points and the imaginary lines between them, make up what kitchen experts call the “work triangle”. The idea is that when these three elements are in close (but not too close) proximity to one other, the kitchen will run efficiently.

There are exceptions to this rule: In single wall kitchens, it’s geometrically impossible to achieve a true triangle—but efficiency can still be achieved through the configuration of the three items, and how far apart they are. Below are just a few ideas to get you excited about your kitchen remodel.

Luxurious Bathroom

We take many considerations before building our customers new bathrooms. For example, you may want to match the stonework in the kitchen to your bathroom(s); or perhaps removing a bathroom wall to convert a bedroom into a master suite. Whatever the plans call for, we make sure it is built to code, built to last and built to look beautiful. Below are some technical aspects to consider when designing your dream bathroom.

 Drainage and waste disposal

It’s essential that your bathroom plumbing is installed correctly for safety and hygiene. A General Contractor will adhere to building regulations, which include making sure waste pipes and drainage run downhill from the appliance to the outlet, pipes have the proper diameter for each application, and the right material is used to insure durability, hygiene and safety.

Ventilation is especially important in moist areas like kitchens and bathrooms to help prevent damp and mold, which can be harmful to properties as well as your health. Building regulations state that bathrooms must be ventilated via a window or extractor fan – you may want to use both. We can help you decide.

Electrical safety

bathroom3Water and faulty electrics can be a lethal combination, which is why it’s illegal to carry out electrical work in the bathroom unless you are a Contractor. A Contractor will insure that GFI outlets and manual on and sensor off switches are installed for California energy compliance. They will make sure your bathroom is beautiful, safe and functional for many years to come.

Structural safety

It’s necessary to look at the structural safety of your bathroom, especially if you are extensively refurbishing or building a new room from scratch. You would need to make sure that the floor is structurally secure enough to hold your bathroom suite and a full bathtub (600lbs). The walls may also need retrofitting if you decide to purchase a wall mounted cabinet. There is no doubt that wall mounted cabinets (commercially known as “Floating Cabinets”) are beautiful, however; dual sink floating cabinets can weigh as much as 400lbs pounds and walls must be able to support the extra load requirements.

What do you want to do with your bathroom?
